INTERSWITCH

InterSwitch Limited is Nigeria’s first independent network focusing on creating an on line; real-time electronic funds transfer and transaction switching company. It is a private sector initiative that seeks to enable the electronic payments by creating a national payment transaction-switching infrastructure. Accenture, Afribank, First Bank, First City Monument Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, Telnet, Union Bank, United Bank for Africa and Universal Trust Bank are all promoters of this project.

IPNX’s telecommunications infrastructure will be the communications backbone - Connecting all subscribing banks, branches and merchants to the InterSwitch network. InterSwitch chose IPNX’s network because it is the only network that covers over 95% of Lagos. The network also has a scalable design that guarantees sufficient bandwidth to meet immediate and future requirements of InterSwitch. Critically, Banks who form the core of InterSwitch clientele are already on the NACS network and will consequently have a lower entry and running costs since both networks are hosted on the IPNX metropolitan network.
